Sunday, 24 February 2008 |
Duluth, Minnesota USA – In a vote of its Council on February 15, 2008, IFSS announced that its 2009 sled/winter World Championships will be awarded to the L'international de traineau a chiens de la Riviere Daaquam in Canada's Quebec province, located in the village of St Just de Bretenieres along the Daaquam river, an hour and half east of Quebec City in the heart of Appalachian Regional Park of Quebec. The event will take place January 17-25, 2009. Nordic skijoring and pulka, sprint and mid-distance events are scheduled.
Three excellent bids, from Alaska and Colorado, in addition to the Daaquam bid, were submitted to IFSS. The final decision was difficult, for each bid had its advantages.
Max Vidal, who submitted Daaquam's bid and is heading up the committee to stage the event, commented, “I’m very happy about this great news, and it’s an honor for my country and community to be awarded the IFSS World Championships, a first in Quebec!” Sure that his organization will be up to the task, Vidal is anxious for this meeting of the best mushers in the world.
IFSS congratulates Daaquam and is looking forward to working with Vidal and his organization in putting on a very successful event. IFSS also thanks the other organizations that submitted bids for their time and effort in putting together their bid package. IFSS hopes that they will continue to work with IFSS with the World Cup Series and future World Championships. |
